Finding an Agent
![]() |
| Finding the right agent can be a little frustrating! |
I read the advice contained in the 2014 Guide to Literary Agents and then read it again, and again.
It's a great resource. While it didn't answer everything, it did help me focus on what I should be looking for and how to find it.
As a new author, I don't have any experience with agents. I don't know how to tell a good agent from a bad one, let alone how to grab a great agent's attention.
The Guide was really a big help. There are tips from many different agents about how to format a query letter. There are also suggestions to help you figure out if the agent you are querying is even interested in the type of novel you have written.
Since I have written a romance novel (like millions of other people) I don't want to waste my energy querying an agent who specializes in SciFi or non-fiction. I need to find an agent who champions romance.
This process has been more complicated than I had imagined it would be. There are spreadsheets and FBI level research involved. OK, so maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but there is a lot of research involved.
Here's hoping it is all worth it in the end!

The Big Finale
So I am wrapping up the last few thousand words in novel one of the Spade Worldwide series and it is so hard.
Making sure that I end the book in a way that will make you want to pick up the next one is very difficult.
I am sure that I will write and re-write this ending at least 10 times over the next week or so. I just hope I get it good enough that you all love it.

It's a Full Time Gig
![]() |
| Step away from the laptop, please! |
In the beginning, the words were flying on to the pages just as fast as I could type them. I was so excited, as were my friends and family, that I spent every available second writing.
Flash forward 2 months and the whole thing is getting old to the people around me. Obligations have been piling up and my husband is no longer content to keep my son busy all night by himself.
Don't get me wrong, I have loads of support from the people in my life, it just isn't so easy these days to get away with "I'm sorry, I can't, I really need to get this chapter done." After 2 months, of the same excuse, people want to see some results.
Of course, I have over 50,000 words written, but in this 30 minutes or less world, people expect to see a finished, printed book. Not an unedited word doc.
